TUT down Brazilians, UWC & JVW draw

Reigning Hollywoodbets Super League champions were brought down to earth when they lost 1-0 to their neighbours the Tshwane University of Technology (TUT) in a tightly-contested clash at Tuks Stadium on Sunday, 25 September 2022.

Mary Ntsweng scored the solitary goal for the students in the 71st minute with a well-taken set piece that gave Banyana Banyana’s number one goalkeeper Andile Dlamini no chance in the Sundowns Ladies goals.

TUT vs Mamelodi Sundowns Ladies

This was the Brazilian’s second loss of the season in 19 outings – the other defeat was at the hands of the University of the Western Cape (UWC).

In the first round, the Brazilians won the reverse fixture 5-1 with goals from Lerato Kgasago, Rhoda Mulaudzi, Karabo Dhlamini, Gabonnelwe Kekana, and Nonhlanhla Mthandi.

Despite the latest setback, Sundowns Ladies continue to be at the summit of the league table with 49 points, four ahead of second-placed JVW who were held to a goalless draw by UWC.

Victory for TUT sees them jump into third position, level on 45 points with JVW, while UWC is fourth six points behind (39).

Bloemfontein Celtic Ladies is in fifth place after defeating Thunderbirds Ladies 1-0 at the Mpumalanga Stadium in Hammersdale – Kgaelebane Mohlakoana the goal scorer very early into the match (10’).

Durban Ladies

Memory Makhanya put the visiting Durban Ladies into the lead in the 10th minute before substitute Amanda Citywayo found the equaliser for hosts Coal City Wizards in the 71st minute as the two sides shared the spoils at the Puma Stadium in Witbank.

Two first half goals were enough as City Lads Ladies bounced back from a 9-1 drubbing at the hands of JVW in their last match, and cruised to a 2-0 victory over Limpopo’s First Touch FC.

The Eastern Cape side made their intentions very clear when Sibahle Maneli hit the back of the net two minutes into the match, before Aphelele Mpambani grabbed the second seven minutes from the break at the Isaac Wolfson Stadium in Gqeberha.

City Lads Ladies

There were goals galore for Richmond United, Vasco da Gama and the University of Johannesburg (UJ).

Visiting Richmond were unstoppable as they hit the struggling Tsunami Queens 4-1 at the Bohlokong Stadium in Bethlehem, with Vasco dominating bottom of the table Golden Ladies in a 4-0 win in Cape Town while UJ were too good for Ma-Indies Ladies in Soweto, registering a 3-0 victory.

With the victories, City Lads and Vasco have put some distance between themselves and the relegation haunted Tsunami Queens and Golden Ladies who 15th and 16th respectively.

The latter teams are tied on six points each, while Vasco and City Lads have 15 each.
