One down, two to go for Banyana Banyana star Linda Motlhalo in Scotland
The midfield maestro is a new champion after helping Glasgow City defeat Rangers 2-1 in a pulsating final of the Sky Sports Cup in Scotland on Sunday (29 March 2026).
She played the entire 90 minutes as City dethroned their opponents who have lifted this trophy in the last three years. This was also Glasgow’s first league cup success in 11 years as they equaled Hibernian with a record seven titles.

“It feels brilliant, as I said before it’s been a long time since we’ve had our hands on this trophy. Any trophy is special but to get this one back is a great feeling. We played differently today and I am proud that the players carried it out to the tee,” Glasgow City Head Coach Leanne Ross told the BBC.

For Motlhalo, it was her first cup gold medal with the club, and they have kept alive the hopes of a treble.
Glasgow City are still in the semi-finals of the Scottish Women’s Cup and also in contention to win the league title as they lead by four points with seven games to go.
They return to action on Wednesday (3 April) when they take on current champions Hibs, while a last four cup fixture against Celtic lies in wait in June.

The following month (July), Motlhalo is expected to feature in her fourth competition this year when she dons the Sasol-sponsored Banyana Banyana squad jersey as they take part in the 2026 CAF African Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) in Morocco.
The tournament, which will feature 16 nations for the first time ever, is a 2027 FIFA Women’s World Cup qualifier, with the top four countries representing the continent in Brazil.
South Africa has been drawn in Group B against Burkina Faso, Ivory Coast and Tanzania.
