Day two of the 2021 Sasol League National Championships saw more high scores as teams continue to position themselves for a semi-final place, and eventually a spot in the final which will see them promoted to the Hollywoodbets Super League for the 2022 season.
The action is in full swing in Durban at the King Zwelithini Stadium.
Following hot on the heels of the exploits of City Lads, who walloped Royal Wizards 12-3 on the opening day of the tournament, Western Cape’s Vasco Da Gama were just four goals short of also achieving the feat on Day 2.
Vasco were ruthless as they beat Wizards 8-1 in a one-sided affair.
Pertule Petersen grabbed a brace with the other goals coming from Miche Minnies, captain Jamie-Lee Witbooi, Aaqilah Alfreds, Chantay Norris and former Banyana Banyana goalkeeper Roxanne Barker.
Wizards solitary goal was scored by Refilwe Mareetsa.
Minnies was named Diski Queen of the Match.
Wizards have now conceded 21 goals in two matches and are yet to collect any points.
City Lads top Group A, with Vasco in second place.
Gauteng’s Croesus Ladies brushed aside Tswelelang De’Scorpions 2-0 in a hard-fought fixture – their first match in the tournament.
The second half goals were scored by Delina Lunga and Mpho Rammala.
The result saw Croesus shoot to the top of Group B.
Rammala walked away with the Diski Queen of the Match award.
A brace by U20 international Zethembiso Vilakazi, and a further two by Mandisa Faya and Londeka Gumede was enough to see hosts Lindelani Ladies fly past Limpopo’s Copperbelt Ladies, winning the contest 4-1.
Vilakazi, who scored South Africa’s only goal at the FIFA U17 Women’s World Cup in 2018, was chosen as the Diski Queen of the Match.
