HOLLYWOODBETS SUPER LEAGUE – SUNDOWNS LADIES DOWN FORT HARE

Captain Zanele Nhlapho bagged a last-minute penalty to help Mamelodi Sundowns Ladies secure a dramatic late victory over a resolute University of Fort Hare in a Hollywoodbets Super League encounter at the Lucas Moripe Stadium in Atteridgeville on Saturday (22 June 2024).

The goal was Captain Zanele’s third of the season as she continues to prove that age is only a number.

Speaking after the game, Khunjulwa Mali praised the tenacity of the team.

“The game was far from easy as our opponents deployed a low block. We created a lot of chances, but somehow, they were determined to stop every attempt we made. However, champions are defined by their persistence and resilience, and we managed to earn a late penalty. I am so happy that we converted that. It was a hard-fought victory and a testament to our team’s determination and spirit.”

Andile Dlamini, acknowledging the team’s hard-fought victory, remarked:

“We are so grateful for the maximum points because we faced an ultra-defensive opponent. We plan to work more on our finishing, ensuring that we capitalize on our chances. In every game, you either win, draw, or lose and we are happy with the win. They presented a different type of opposition, which required us to adapt our strategy. When you play against teams of this nature, it tests your patience and tactical flexibility.”

The win means Sundowns Ladies have now secured their 13th victory of the season after 16 games played, scoring a league-high 64 goals and conceding just 10 times, the best defence in the league.

On the Sundowns Ladies’ scoring chart, Nthabiseng Majiya leads the way with 10 goals, two more than Boitumelo Rabale. Miche Minnies has seven goals to her name, while Refilwe Tholakele and Andisiwe Mgcoyi both have five goals each. Zanele Nhlapho has netted three times, tied with Salome Kekana, Lebohang Ramalepe and Asanda Hadebe.
