Second-placed JVW FC will be putting their undefeated run record on the line when they meet log leaders Mamelodi Sundowns Ladies in a top of the table clash.
The clash of the titans takes place at the Groenkloof Stadium in Pretoria with an early kick off (13h00).
Banyana Ba Style are on 21 points, just one above the Blue Diamonds.
After putting the brakes on Bloemfontein Celtic Ladies’ seven match unbeaten streak, the hosts will be eager to do the same to the travelling JVW.
The Brazilians hold an advantage from last year as the second round clash (Wednesday, 24 November 2021) went their way in a 2-1 win at the Groenkloof Stadium.
But they will be wary of their opponents who held them to a 2-2 draw in the first match between the two side in the elite women’s division – after the Bedfordview-based had just been promoted to the Hollywoodbets Super League in a match held at the Tsakane Stadium in June 2021.
This season, both have been in fine form, with Sundowns Ladies’ only blemish being a 2-0 loss to the University of the Western Cape (UWC) in the earlier rounds.
The African champions have won seven of their eight fixtures, while JVW triumphed in six and shared the spoils in two.
The pair scored two goals each in their respective midweek contests – but the Brazilians have been lethal in front of goal with 38 strikes in total, while the Blue Diamonds are second best with 23.
A draw will not help with either side as they have UWC, University of Johannesburg FC (UJ) and Bloemfontein Celtic Ladies breathing down their necks.
Victory for Sundowns will see them open a slightly bigger gap at the top, while a win for JVW will propel them back to the top of the table – so there stakes are higher for the two teams.
