The Hollywoodbets Super League is back!!

After a short break, South Africa’s premier Women’s Football League has returned with five matches played this past weekend.

First in battle was Durban Ladies who hosted Hollywoodbets Super League strugglers, Golden Ladies at the King Zwelithini Stadium in Umlazi, near Durban.

The KwaZulu Natal outfit was merciless as they emerged 5-1 winners, leaving the North west side languishing in 15th position.

Durban Ladies

University of Johannesburg also scored big, as they shot down Thunderbirds Ladies by the same margin. Amanda Mthandi scored a brace in the first half for a commanding two nil lead at the break.

The other side of the half saw Keolebogile Pute extend the lead while the Shamase twins – Thubelihle and Sphumelele – shared the other two goals in a dominant 5-1 win.

Zimasa Dekede netted the consolation goal for the Eastern Cape side.

Bloemfontein Celtic Ladies seem to be running out of steam.

After a near-perfect start to the 2022 league season, they continue to drop points as they were held to a goalless draw by First Touch FC in Lebowakgomo.

This was their sixth draw of the season, their second in a row and also their fifth goalless – which saw them drop to fifth on the table.

Ma-Indies Ladies FC

But there were no such problems for Ma-Indies as they brushed aside newcomers City Lads 2-1 at the Isaac Wolfson Stadium in Qgeberha.

The Limpopo side is now third on the log standings with 23 points – level with second-placed University of the Western Cape and four behind pace-setters and reigning champions Mamelodi Sundowns Ladies.

Ma-Indies have, however, played two more matches than the Brazilians and UWC.

Also moving up the table were TUT after their slender but vital 1-0 victory over bottom of the table Tsunami Queens.

The Tshwane side is fourth with 22 points, while Tsunami has amassed two points from 11 outings.

Sixteen goals in total were scored in the five matches played in Week 12.

Due to the upcoming Women’s Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco where Banyana Banyana is currently preparing for the start of the tournament, clubs that have players in the national team did not play – these are Sundowns Ladies, UWC, JVW and Richmond Ladies.

Competition takes place from 2-23 July.
