Sundowns Ladies return to domestic league competition

With the COSAFA Champions League commitments out of the way, Mamelodi Sundowns Ladies return to domestic league action hoping to pick up where they left off.

Banyana Ba Style have a home tie against the struggling Golden Ladies and should cruise past them without breaking a sweat in their midweek clash on Thursday, 18 August 2022.

Sundowns will be mindful of not dropping points as they are currently, due to their inactivity in the Hollywoodbets Super League, seven points behind new log leaders, the Tshwane University of Technology who are on 37 after 16 outings – four more than the Brazilians.

All the other fixtures have been scheduled for Wednesday, 17 August – starting with Durban Ladies welcoming Thunderbirds Ladies at 13h00 at the Sugar Ray Xulu Stadium.

Durban Ladies

At the Mpumalanga Stadium near Durban, the high-riding Bloemfontein Celtic Ladies have a tough assignment when they entertain the University of the Western Cape (UWC).

Both sides have been in fine form and are separated by just one point.

The University of Johannesburg (UJ) will make the long trip to Cape Town for a date with Vasco da Gama at Parow Park Stadium.

In their first season in top flight women’s football, Vasco has not set the scene alight with their inconsistent performance where they have won only three matches in 13 outings, registering just one draw and losing nine.

UJ has not been great shakes either, with fluctuating results where they won two and lost the same number of games in their last four fixtures.

Following their fine run recently, the Tshwane University of Technology (TUT) is not expected to come across any resistance when they take on struggling league debutants City Lads Ladies at the Westbourne Oval.

TUT has won their last four matches and top of the table – and will want to cement their position, more so as the defending champions and neighbours, Mamelodi Sundowns Ladies are return to action.

Coal City Wizards

At the Puma Stadium in Witbank, Coal City Wizards will be looking for a change in fortune when they take on Tsunami Queens. Wizards have lost their last three games and are in 12th place with the same number of points, while Tsunami is second from basement with just five points.

Winless in their last four games, First Touch FC welcome Richmond United with the hope of stopping the rot in Polokwane.
