Hollywoodbets Super League returns and Sundowns Ladies continue with winnings ways

Log leaders and reigning Mamelodi Sundowns Ladies continued where they left before the month-long international break as they collected three points when the Hollywoodbets Super League resumed this past weekend.

The Brazilians had the better of the University of Johannesburg (UJ FC), winning 3-1 at the Tuks Main Stadium in Pretoria.

The results sees the reigning champions move to 30 points at the top of the table – two clear of second-placed Tshwane University of Technology (TUT).

The Chloorkop-based side will now be taking another break from the domestic league as they focus their sights on the upcoming COSAFA Club Women’s Championship taking place in Durban, where they are the defending champions.

The competition runs from 7-13 August 2022.

Fresh representing the country with five Banyana Banyana players in their squad, the University of the Western Cape (UWC) suffered their second loss of the season when they went down 1-0 to Ma-Indies at the Giyani Stadium.

The Limpopo side, who have quietly been making inroads in the league, has moved to third spot on the table with 24 points – six behind the log leaders.

UWC has fallen three places, and is now fifth with 23 points – level with JVW who got back to winning ways with a nervy 3-2 win over newcomers Vasco da Gama at the Tuks Main Stadium.

Vasco remains 14 on the log with six points.

The visiting City Lads Ladies registered their second win of the season in 12 games after defeating the struggling Golden Ladies 4-2 at the Montshioa Stadium in the North West province.

The hosts are yet to win a match and suffered their 10th loss in 13 outings. They have only managed to accumulate three points following the same number of draws, while City Lads are in 13th place with eight points.

Bloemfontein Celtic Ladies, who have now relocated to KwaZulu Natal, continue to drop points as they were held to a goalless draw by Durban Ladies at the Mpumalanga Stadium in Hammersdale.

Siwelele sa Masele have so far registered the highest number of draws in the league – seven.

After a strong start at the beginning of the season, the former Free State side is now sixth on the log standings on 22 points.

TUT did not have difficulties as they brushed aside Richmond United 2-0 despite the long trip Merino Park in De Aar in the Northern Cape.

The Tshwane side is now on 28 points, and breathing down the necks of their neighbours Sundowns Ladies – but the latter have a two games in hand.

Rounding off the weekend with victories was Thunderbirds Ladies who flew past bottom-of-the-table Tsunami Queens in East London with a 1-0 win, while First Touch FC took all three points in a 2-0 success over the visiting Coal City Wizards at the Noordelikes Sports Field in Polokwane.
