Sundowns Ladies return to winning ways, JVW drop points

Following their shock defeat to the University of Western Cape UWC) in their last fixture, Mamelodi Sundowns Ladies made good on their promise that they will bounce back – and they did, with TUT their victims as Students felt the wrath of the wounded Hollywoodbets Super League defending champions in a 5-1 defeat.

This one-sided affair was played at the Sturrock Park Stadium at Wits.

Goals from Lerato Kgasago (23’), Rhoda Mulaudzi (42’), Karabo Dhlamini (44’), former TUT captain Salome Kekana (75’) and Nhlanhla Mthandi (79’) brought back Banyana ba Style back into the winners’ circle, but was not enough to see them return to the summit of the table. Miss Sethunya responded for TUT in the 59thminute.

This was the third defeat in the row for the Ladies in Red – they lost the two league fixtures last season against Banyana ba Style.

TUT is now 10th on the log standings.

Lying in second place are the Brazilians who reduce the gap to one point behind log leaders JVW FC after the latter were held to a goalless draw in a very tough, tactical but very entertaining match against UWC at the same venue.

Both sides left everything on the field but still nothing could separate them as the Battle of the Blues ended goalless on Super Sunday.

The Blue Diamonds continue their stay at the top of the table with 16 points, while the Blues are fourth, five points behind – in-between, lies Bloemfontein Celtic Ladies, in third place.

Siwelele sa Masele have 12 points after registering their third win of the season when they shot down the Thunderbirds Ladies with a 5-2 victory on Saturday at the Sisa Dukashe Stadium in East London.

Along with JVW, Celtic are yet to taste defeat in this campaign.

Completing the top five are Richmond Ladies who were merciless against the visiting Tsunami Queens, romping home with a 5-1 win in De Aar, Northern Cape.

After three victories and a draw, the Queens are on 10 points – level with sixth-placed Thunderbirds, and the University of Johannesburg (UJ) who are seventh. The Tsunami Queens are in 14th place.

In other matches also played on Saturday, Ma-Indies moved to ninth on the table after grabbing their third win of the season as they beat UJ Ladies 3-1 in Giyani.

UJ drop down two spots and now occupy the seventh place, followed by Coal City Wizards who went down 1-0  to Durban Ladies at the King Zwelithini Stadium in Umlazi.

Despite registering their first point of the season, the struggle is real for City Lads Ladies – they held First Touch FC to a one-all draw but they are still 15th on the table after five losses in six matches.

At the bottom of the table lies Golden Ladies from the North West province – they are yet to win a match and have collected only one point. They lost their latest fixture 2-1 against newly-promoted Vasco Da Gama.

Only one match failed to produce goals in Week 6 of the Hollywoodbets Super League, while the other seven fixtures saw 29 goals scored – with Celtic, Sundowns and Richmond equally dividing 15 goals among themselves.
