Seoposenwe in Cup final in Portugal

Banyana Banyana striker Jermaine Seoposenwe is on the brink of winning a gold medal after her Portuguese side SC Braga qualified for the finals of the Taça da Liga – also known as the Women’s Football League Cup.

Braga defeated Sporting CP 2-1 in the second leg of their semi-final clash, winning 5-3 on aggregate following a 3-2 victory in the return tie.

Seoposenwe’s side will face reigning champions Benfica, who defeated Famalicão 1-0 in the first leg, and drew goalless in the reverse fixture for a 1-0 aggregate win.

The Women’s Football League Cup Final will take place on 23 March at the Marcolino Castro Stadium, in Santa Maria da Feira.

In the first leg, goals from Myra Delgadillo (10′), Carolina Mendes (38′) and Vitória Almeida (63′) gave Braga the advantage, with Diana Silva (53′ and 87′) replying for Sporting.

A 72nd minute own goal in the return leg by Doris Bacic took Braga closer to the final, and this was confirmed four minutes later when Vitória Almeida extended the lead to make it 2-0 on the day.

Deep into referee’s optional time, Silva reduced it to 2-1 but it was too little too late as Braga secured their spot in the final.

In the other semi-final clash, Benfica drew goalless in the second leg, but had the 1-0 advantage from the first match against Famalicão, with the goal courtesy of Cloé Lacasse.

The Lisbon team has won the first two editions of this competition.
