Road to India 2022 U17 FIFA Women’s World Cup left with two rounds

Only two rounds remain on the Road to India 2022 FIFA U17 Women’s World Cup African qualifiers. Twelve nations have confirmed their spots into the third round, with only six to emerge after this phase. The fourth round will see the sextuplets locking horns and the trio that finishes as winners will represent the African continent at the World Cup tournament to be hosted by India, scheduled to run from 11-30 October. A total of 16 teams will play in the final tournament – in addition to India who automatically qualify as host. Fifteen other nations have to battle it from six continental competitions. Six countries have already booked their tickets to women’s football showpiece – People’s Republic of China, Japan, Brazil, Chile, Columbia and New Zealand. There are still nine spots up for grabs. The 2022 FIFA U17 World World Cup will be the 7th edition of the FIFA U17 Women’s World Cup. The competition was cancelled in 2020 due to the Covid-19 pandemic. This will be the second time that India hosts a FIFA tournament after the men’s 2017 FIFA U17 World Cup, and also the first time that they host a FIFA women’s football tournament. Spain won the title in 2018, the last time it was held. Here are the nations that will compete in the 12-team third round stage of the African qualifiers:

In this round, Cameroon will face Zambia, with Burundi taking on Tanzania, while South Africa’s Bantwana will lock horns with Ethiopia. A tough battle is expected when Nigeria goes toe to toe with Egypt, and Guinea will do battle with Ghana whilst Niger and Morocco will fight it out for a fourth round spot.
