More football feast on week nine of the elite women’s league

Week nine of the 2022 Hollywoodbets Super League has some mouth-watering fixtures on offer this weekend.

Six matches will be played on Saturday (4 June) while a further two take place on Sunday (5 June).

Reigning log leaders Mamelodi Sundowns Ladies will be putting their top spot on the line when they face second-placed JVW FC in a clash of the titans at the Groenkloof Stadium in Pretoria.

On the other hand, the Blue Diamonds will be eager to protect their unbeaten run this season in the Saturday match up that has an early kick off (13h00).

The Brazilians lead the table with 21 points – just one ahead of JVW.

The UWC Stadium will play host to the first Cape Derby of the season when the Blues welcome the newly-promoted Vasco da Gama at 15h00.

Third-placed UWC come into this clash red-hot after their last minute winner against Coal City Wizards midweek, while the visitors will be a bit rusty after their clash against City Lads Ladies was postponed.

Vasco is also starting a new life under caretaker coach Justin Tantaal following the departure of their mentor Ashraf Calvert.

In other matches Richmond United will be hoping to stay within touching distance of the leaders when they face the visiting Golden Ladies at Merino Park Stadium in De Aar, Northern Cape.

Richmond lie in eighth place while the travellers are second from bottom.

Limpopo’s First Touch FC will make the long trip to the Eastern Cape to take on Thunderbirds Ladies at the Sisa Dukashe Stadium.

The hosts will be hoping for their fourth win of the season to move from the 10th spot into the top eight, while the visitors will be eager to claim a third victory.

The Tshwane University of Technology finished in second place in 2021 but they have been blowing hot and cold during this campaign, which has seen them lose some ground on the log leaders.

TUT sit in 9th position after only two wins, and suffering four losses – they will be eager to get their title challenge back on track when they entertain a resilient Coal City Wizards who are seventh on the table. The two meet at the TUT Stadium.

The University of Johannesburg (UJ FC) is just five points behind the leading Sundowns, and will be eager to remain in the vicinity when they welcome a winless Golden Ladies at the UJ Soweto Soccer Stadium.

The visiting North West side has become cannon fodder in the league with six losses and two draws.

On Sunday, the struggling Tsunami Queens are at home and will face Durban Ladies FC at 11h30 at Gobler Park Stadium in Bethlehem in the first match of the weekend’s double header.

The hosts are 14th on the table and yet to register victory in the league while the visitors are also not setting the scene alight as they have managed only three wins in eight matches, with four losses.

The second match will see the Bloemfontein Celtic Ladies trying to get back to winning ways after suffering their first loss in 2022 at the hands of Masandawana.
