Linda Motlhalo opens her goal account in Scotland

Banyana Banyana midfielder Linda Motlhalo wasted no time in announcing her arrival in Scotland as she opened her account with a 45th minute goal – to make it 4-0 and help the table-topping Glasgow City to an 8-1 win over Partick Thistle.

The reciprocal clash in the first round clash saw City win 4-1.

The former South Africa U20 Women’s National team captain made her debut last weekend as she was introduced in the 90th minute, but she was handed her first start on Sunday (5 February) against Thistle.

Wearing jersey number 10, Motlhalo lasted only 78 minutes.

The nimble-footed midfielder did not disappoint, joining the goal spree party started by Claire Walsh in the fourth minute followed by a brace from Priscila Chinchilla (9, 35).

On the stroke of half time, Motlhalo tapped home from close range after a deflected shot – registering her first goal for the new side.

City went into the break leading 5-0 after they were given a penalty following a handball in the box, with Kozak converting from the spot.

The Partick Thistle net was rattled three times in the second half, Lisa Forrest (64), Lauren Davidson (73) and Megan Foley (89) all getting on the scoresheet.

Rachel Donaldson grabbed the consolation goal in the 80th minute.

After 15 wins and two draws in 17 matches, Glasgow City sits top of the able.

Currently on 47 points, they are three ahead of second placed Celtic.

City are away to fourth-placed Hearts in their next league fixture on Wednesday (8 February).
