Hollywoodbets and the South African Football Association (SAFA) wrapped up the 2022 Super League season with a celebration of excellence awards for those who shone during the year.
This was at a glittering ceremony held at the Sandton Convention Centre on Saturday, 3 December.
The event was attended by, among others, president of the South African Football Association (SAFA) Dr Danny Jordaan, SAFA COO Lydia Monyepao, Banyana Banyana head coach Desiree Ellis, Indira Albuquerque of Hollywoodbets and Enrique Suay of La Liga.

Head coach of Mamelodi Sundowns Ladies Jerry Tshabalala and midfielder Boitumelo Rabale were the big winners on the evening – smiling all the way to the bank with R50 000 (fifty-thousand-rand) each.
Tshabalala, who led Banyana Ba Style to their third league trophy in a row, beat off a strong challenge of Thinasonke Mbuli, (head coach of the University of the Western Cape- UWC), and Lucky Sibiya (head coach of the Tshwane University of Technology – TUT).
Kappa, as Tshabalala is fondly known, won this season’s title with eight games to spare.
He also won the award last season.

Sundowns Ladies continued to shine on the night when the hard-working Rabale was crowned the 2022 league Player of the Year as she was chosen ahead of teammate and last season’s winner Bambanani Mbane, as well as TUT’s Busi Ndimeni.
With an educated left foot, the Lesotho international scored 23 goals coming from midfield – and was top of the scoring charts at her club
It was some of her crucial strikes that saw Sundowns Ladies dictate terms again this season retain their league title.

Richmond United forward Nthabiseng Majiya was named the 2022 Young Player of the Year for the second time in a row.
She took the title ahead of teammate Michelle Sampson and JVW’s Cimone Sauls.
Majiya’s exploits helped the Northern Cape side to seventh position on the table after finishing 11th in 2021.
In July this year she was also part of the Banyana Banyana squad that lifted the CAF Women’s Africa Cup of Nations title for the first time ever.
Majiya scored the solitary goal that saw South Africa defeat neighbours Botswana in the group stages at the tournament.

Captain of JVW Nompumelelo Nyandeni walked away with the Top Goal Scorer award after netting 30 goals.
She was also the winner in the same category last season but shared the accolade with Mamelodi Sundowns Ladies forward Andisiwe Mgcoyi after they both found the back of the net 27 times.

Bloemfontein Celtic Ladies’ Katlego Moletsane’s heroics in goals were enough for her to lift the Goalkeeper of the Year accolade, beating off a strong challenge of Mamelodi Sundowns Ladies Sedilame Boseja and UWC’s Regirl Ngobeni – the latter two are both senior national team players for Botswana and South Africa respectively.
Celtic Ladies finished sixth on the table, with UWC taking second place.
Hloniphile Msezane walked away with the Referee of the Year award while Amogelang Msiza scooped the Assistant Referee of the Year accolade.
Thanks to the partnership with Hollywoodbets, La Liga announced that all the winners will travel to Spain for a La Liga experience as part of the added prize. This was revealed by Enrique Suay, who represents the Spanish League in South Africa.

Also at the awards, Sundowns Ladies were officially handed their winners cheque of two-million rand for their efforts.
Banyana ba Style amassed 82 points, 14 more than runners up UWC.
This is also the highest number of points Sundowns Ladies have ever achieved since the inception of the elite women’s league three years ago.
The Brazilians also scored an impressive 126 goals – beating their nearest challenger, fourth-placed JVW, by 44.
Sundowns Ladies were stingy at the back, conceding only 13 – same as UWC.
