  • Two teams scored five and above: Thunderbirds and Richmond United

The Hollywoodbets Super League takes a break due to the international FIFA break.

The Sasol-sponsored Banyana Banyana squad is currently in a training camp in Johannesburg to prepare for the 2022 Africa Women’s Cup of Nations tournament scheduled for Morocco from 2-23 July.

Due to that only five matches were played in the league this past weekend.

The high-flying Bloemfontein Celtic Ladies missed an opportunity to climb to third place on the table after they were held by Golden Ladies at the De Beers Stadium in Kimberly on Sunday.

With 19 point before the start of this encounter, victory would have seen Siwelele sa Masele unseat third-placed JVW who are on 20 points.

The Blues, along with six other sides – defending champions Mamelodi Sundowns Ladies, second placed University of the Western Cape (UWC), Tsunami Queens, Coal City Wizards and First Touch FC were not in action this weekend.

The draw leaves Celtic Ladies unchanged on the fourth spot – level on 20 points with JVW and Ma-Indies in fifth place.

The stalemate helped Golden Ladies move from basement of the league to 15th with three points to their name after three draws – they are yet to win a match this season (along with bottom of the table Tsunami Queens).

Ma-Indies Ladies Players

Ma-Indies defeated Durban Ladies FC 1-0 in Giyani, as the visitors drop a level to 10th place on the log standings.

Also registering a 1-0 victory was TUT who triumphed in the Varsity battle against UJ FC at the TUT Stadium.

Initially separated by a point, the win takes the hosts to sixth on the table from seventh -– while the visitors drop three places to ninth with a two-point difference.

There were big wins for Thunderbirds United and Richmond Ladies – netting 11 goals between them.

Thunderbirds had no mercy for newcomers Vasco da Gama as they defeated them 6-1 at the Sisa Dukashe Stadium in East London.

This was their sixth win of the season, taking them to 19 points after four loses and a draw – they are in seventh position.

Although it’s still early days, the going is tough for the Cape Town side who have now suffered their eighth loss of the season, leaving them on the 13th spot. They have only won two matches, giving them six points as they are yet to play a draw.

In the other high-scoring match, Richmond United shot five past City Lads Ladies without any reply at the De Beers Stadium in Kimberly.

The result was good enough to catapult them two spots up to eighth on the table, while City Lads remain in 14th position.

The League will resume after the completion of the AWCON.
