Burundi announces WAFCON squad 

Banyana Banyana’s opponents in Group C of the TotalEnergies Women’s Cup of Nations, Burundi has announced their final squad for the tournament.

Also drawn in the grou are Nigeria and Botswana.

Head coach of Burundi Gustave Niyonkuru has included seven players who ply their trade outside the borders of the East African country:

  • Salha Nduwayo (Huksvarna FF, Sweden)
  • Saffira Guinand (FC Yverdon, Switzerland)
  • Asha Djafari (Simba Queens FC, Tanzania)
  • Joelle Bukuru (Simba Queens, Tanzania)
  • Cheilla Ineza (Huksvarna FF, Sweden)
  • Aniella Uwimana (Young Princess, Tanzania)
  • Falone Nahimana (Huddersfield TAFC, England)
  • Sandrine Niyonkuru (Fountaingate Schools, Tanzania

The squad will be making their debut in the tournament which will take place from 2-23 July and they will open their account with a fixture against Botswana on July 4th at the Stade Moulay Hasan in Rabat.

Their next opponents are Banyana Banyana on July 7th before completing the group stages three days later (July 10th ).

The East Africans were recently runners up in the CECAFA Senior Championship after losing to Uganda in the final.

“The CECAFA tournament exposed us in some departments and now we are working hard to improve to have a well-balanced team,” Siyonkuru told CAF Media.

“We know some of the teams we are going to face have a lot of experience, but we shall approach every game like a final.”
