A titanic battle is in the offing on Super Sunday in the Hollywoodbets Super League double header when reigning league champions Mamelodi Sundowns Ladies lock horns with TUT in the first Tshwane derby of the season at 11h30.
This will be followed by the clash between two on-form teams – table topping JVW against giant slayers, the University of the Western Cape (UWC) at 15h00.
The scene of the action will be the Wits Stadium in Johannesburg on Sunday, 21 May 2022.
TUT come into this encounter following back to back goalless draws (Bloemfontein Celtic Ladies and Thunderbirds Ladies), while their neighbours are still smarting from a shock and much-publicised defeat at the hands of UWC – which makes for an interesting battle as both sides will be eager to bounce back and return to the winners circle.
“Every match is approached the same way. We want positive maximum points. If we ‘do well” against Sundowns, and yet not get positive maximum points against other teams, that will not make a difference. We approach every match the same way,” said TUT coach Sizwe Sibiya.

Banyana Ba Style hold the advantage against TUT after convincing victories in the first and second round last season.
They scored eight goals in two matches – winning 4-1 (16 May 2021) and 4-2 (18 September 2021) in the reverse fixture.
TUT has not had the best of starts to the season with two wins and two losses after four rounds of fixtures, and lie in eight position.
But Sibiya is not too bothered.
“We are not really worried about our current log standing, because just one win will take us into the top Three. We have targets that players respond to brilliantly. Let’s talk about the fact that, in the first two matches that we won, we conceded goals. The other two we drew, and did not concede. If we fixed the conceding part, and score our goals, what will it do for us as a team? One thing I know about this league, is the fact that it’s not a 100m sprint. It’s still a long way to go. I am happy with our display,” added Sibiya.
TUT finished in second position last season, 14 points behind Sundowns.

“Firstly, I need to highlight the fact that, the league itself is growing! Teams are well coached, teams are doing well. Watching matches on FB/YouTube channels helps a lot. My realistic expectations is to do well on every approaching match,” concluded Sibiya.
Action in the Hollywoodbets Super League kicks off on Saturday (21 May 2022) when the struggling Golden Ladies welcome newcomers Vasco da Gama at the North West University Stadium, while Coal City Wizards travel to the King Zwelithini Stadium in Umlazi for a date with Durban Ladies.
Both matches kick off at 13h00.
The remaining fixtures of the day will take place two hours later (15h00).
This is when Thunderbirds Ladies entertain Bloemfontein Celtic Ladies at the Sisa Dukashe Stadium in East London, with the Tsunami Queens will be eyeing their first win of the season when they are away to Richmond United in De Aar, Northern Cape.
Ma-Indies host UJ Ladies at the Giyani Stadium, while First Touch and City Lads Ladies will lock horns at the Old Peter Mokaba Stadium in Polokwane.
