Western Cape’s Vasco Da Gama have been crowned the champions of the 2021 Sasol League National Champs!
This after defeating the Eastern Cape’s City Lads Ladies 4-3 in a very tense final played at the King Zwelithini Stadium in Umlazi on Sunday (13 February 2022).
Vasco led 3-1 at the break.
Noluthando Bottoman, who is on the books of the Western Cape side, was named Diski Queen of the match.
Vasco almost made a clean sweep on the overall individual awards.
Miche Minnies was the top goal scorer with six goals to her name to add to her Player of the Tournament accolade.
Her teammate, Jessica Williams, was named the Goalkeeper of the Tournament.
Lindelani’s Sbongakonke Mzobe was chosen the Young Promising Player.
Rebecca Molefe and Nomthetho Mbatsha walked away with the Referee and assistant referee of the Tournament awards respectively.
By reaching the final, both Vasco and City Lads had already clinched a spot in the elite league of women’s football in South Africa, the Hollywoodbets Super League.
They join 12 other teams for the 2022 season – champions Mamelodi Sundowns Ladies, Tshwane University of Technology (TUT), University of the Western Cape, JVW FC, First Touch Academy, Bloemfontein Celtic Ladies, Thunderbirds Ladies, Ma-Indies Ladies, Durban Ladies, University of Johannesburg, Richmond Ladies, Coal City Wizards, Golden Ladies and Tsunami Queens.
For their efforts, Vasco bagged two-hundred-thousand-rand (R200.000) in prize money, while City Lads pocketed one-hundred-thousand rand (R100.000).
Hosts Lindelani Ladies finished in third place and received 60-thousand-rand (R60.000), with fourth-placed Croesus Ladies from Gauteng walking away with 40-thousand-rand (R40.000).
Thirty-thousand-rand (R30.000) went to Ixias FC, and TS Galaxy was handed twenty-five-thousand rand (R25 000).
Tswelelang De’Scorpion, Copperbelt Ladies and Royal Wizards will receive R20 000, R15.000 and R10.000 respectively.
