2021 Sasol League Champs reaches business end

First it was nine, now it’s down to four!

Hosts Lindelani Ladies, Eastern Cape’s City Lads Ladies, Croesus Ladies of Gauteng and the Western Cape’s Vasco Da Gama have qualified for the semi-finals of the 2021 Sasol League National Championships currently underway at the King Zwelithini Stadium in Umlazi, near Durban.

The last four draw was conducted immediately after the identity of the teams was confirmed.

Lindelani will be up against City Lads in the first semi-final, with Croesus taking on Vasco Da Gama in the later showdown. Both matches will take place on Friday, 11 February 2022.

The KwaZulu Natal side booked their last four place following a hard-fought 2-1 win over Ixias FC from the Free State to top Group C with six points. Zethembiso Vilakazi’s two goals in either half was enough to see them over the line, while Relebohile Nthongoa scored for Ixias.

Vilakazi was chosen as the Diski Queen of the Match, her second in two matches.

Gauteng’s representative secured their ticket after brushing aside Mpumalanga’s TS Galaxy 2-0. Lerato Makhanya opened the scoring from the penalty spot in the 25th minute, with Mpho Rammala increasing the lead on the stroke of half time.

Croesus captain Simphiwe Masina walked away with the Diski Queen of the Match.

A brace from Miche Minnies (56th, 65th) saw Vasco Da Gama cruise to a 3-1 win over City Lads.

Chantay Norris had given the Mother City outfit the lead 13 minutes into the match.

Onelisa Nanasele grabbed the consolation goal for City Lads FC, who progressed by virtue of being the best third-placed team – thanks largely to the 8-1 triumph over the Northern Cape’s Royal Wizards.

Irene Yoakim of Vasco was the most outstanding player on the day, and picked up the Diski Queen of the Match award.
