WORLD CUP DESK: IN PICTURES – Banyana Banyana’s first open training session in Wellington

The Sasol-sponsored Banyana Banyana squad has been in New Zealand for just over a week, held several training sessions, and also travelled to Christchurch to play Costa Rica in a friendly international – which they won 2-0.

But the training session on Monday, 17 July was of a different kind – they had visitors from different schools in Wellington who stopped by to watch the South Africans in action.

The represented schools were Glen View Primary, Whitby Collegiate, Postage Primary, Maraeroa Primary, Whitford Brown Specialists Centre, Tiarangi Primary and Pautahanui Primary.

After the training session the young ones had an opportunity to mingle with the Banyana Banyana stars who were signing autographs.

The South Africans are in the country for the 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup and kick start the group stages with a clash against Sweden on Sunday, 23 July. Argentina and Italy lie in wait later in the group stages.
