The University of the Western Cape (UWC) are the 2025 Varsity Women’s Football champions after defeating hosts the University of Johannesburg (UJ Ladies) in a pulsating final on Friday night (19 September 2025) at the UJ Soccer Stadium in Soweto.
A well-worked second half goal from captain Tiffany Kortjie was enough to see the Capetonians lift their third trophy in a row – their fourth in total after wins in 2021, 2023, 2024, 2025.

With this victory, the Blues are closing in on the record-breaking six titles in succession by the Tshwane University of Technology (TUT) which they won between 2014 and 2019.
UWC have not enjoyed a good season in the Hollywoodbets Super League, but this result will surely give coach Thinasonke Mbuli something to smile about.
Played in front of a full house under the lights, the final was a tough contest with both teams going to the half time break with nothing on the scoreboard.

Despite Kortjie’s goal at the start of the second half, UJ Ladies never gave up but fought to the bitter end.
Coming to the final, the Orange Army had won all their four games without conceding – and now UWC is the only team to bridge their solid defence.
At the sound of the final whistle, it was tears all over the field – tears of joy for the conquerors and of pain for the vanquished.
UWC defender Fikile Magama walked away with the Player of the Match accolade.

The big prize – the Player of the Tournament – was awarded to Thabiso Senyatsi of TUT, pocketing a 10-thousand rand cheque and keys to a Suzuki Swift to drive around for a year.
Manana Myeki, the ever reliable last line of defence for UJ Ladies, was named Goalkeeper of the Tournament after she conceded only one goal in five matches.
The Golden Boot award went to UJ Ladies’ Thato Mofolo with her six strikes in the tournament.
