UJ Ladies top of Hollywoodbets Super League as TS Galaxy notch up first win

The University of Johannesburg (UJ Ladies) unseated reigning champions Mamelodi Sundowns Ladies at the summit of the Hollywoodbets Super League table after a convincing 5-0 win over Mpumalanga’s Coal City Wizards in the second round of matches.

The students are tied on six points each with the second-placed Brazilians who were not in action this weekend, but the former has a better goal difference.

Played at the University of the Johannesburg Stadium in Soweto, the home side turned the tables on their visitors in the second period following a goalless draw at the break.

Sphumelele Shamase grabbed a brace, with her twin sister, Thubelihle, a second half substitute, also getting in on the act. The other goals came from Adrielle Mibe, who opened the floodgates, as well as Shakeerah Jacobs.

The students now have two wins in as many matches with seven goals to their name, and zero conceded.

It also means UJ’s dominance over the Mpumalanga outfit continues.

The two sides have met seven times since the 2019/20 season, with four wins for the Soweto side and three for Coal City.

UJ has been victorious in the last four encounters.

Coal City is bottom of the table and have conceded 14 goals in just two matches.

The Tshwane University of Technology (TUT) moved to third position with four points to their name after registering their first win of the 2023 season on Saturday (11 February).
