Sundowns Ladies forfeit points after late arrival for fixture

Mamelodi Sundowns Ladies have forfeited three points and conceded two goals after arriving late for their Hollywoodbets Super League fixture against Royal AM at the Harry Gwala Stadium in Pietermaritzburg.

The incident took place on Saturday, 7 June 2025.

This has led to the Brazilians’ first “defeat” of the season in 12 outings, and they have now “let in” goals for the first time in the current campaign.

The SAFA competitions department has moved swiftly to award Royal AM the three points and two goals – taking them from second from bottom of the table (15) to the 13th spot, with two wins from 12 matches and are on eight points.

Banyana ba Style remain top of the table on 31 points but the eight-point gap has now been reduced to five by TS Galaxy Queens who won their match on Saturday, defeating City Lads Ladies 3-0 at the Kanyamazane Stadium in Mpumalanga.

The second-placed Rockets are on 26 points and have a game in hand.

CentreCircle.online has learnt that Banyana Ba Style missed their kickoff time of 1pm and instead arrived at the match venue long after the host team and the match officials had already left.

Sources close to the story say initially the fixture was scheduled for 3pm but was since changed by SAFA to 1pm, at the request of the home side – with the teams receiving confirmation of the new time on Tuesday (3 June 2025) as per the competition rules of such a change being at least 72 hours before kickoff.

But it appears the correspondence was missed by the Chloorkop outfit. It is not clear if there will be any further sanctions on Sundowns Ladies for failing to arrive on time.
