Sundowns Ladies could wrap up league title this afternoon, battle for second place continues

Mamelodi Sundowns Ladies could wrap up the 2025 Hollywoodbets Super League title this afternoon when they face the visiting City Lads Ladies at the Lucas Moripe Stadium in Atteridgeville.

Kickoff is at 3pm.

The Brazilians need only a point to clinch their record sixth title – no other team has lifted the South African elite women’s football league trophy since the launch of the competition in the 2019/20 season.

Banyana ba Style former head coach Jerry Tshabalala won it five times in a row, and it will now be the turn for the new man at the helm, Godfrey Sapula.

The ex-Orlando Pirates and Mamelodi Sundowns midfielder has been in charge of the reigning champions since the start of the season following the club’s parting of ways with Tshabalala in December last year.

Sapula has not dropped the ball since taking over, helping the Chloorkop outfit maintain the team’s dominance with 23 wins, two draws and the same number of defeats after 27 rounds of fixtures.

They are currently on 71 points with a goal difference of 70 – and only TS Galaxy Queens (63 points, 38 GD) can get to 72 in their remaining three matches but will have to hope and pray that Sundowns Ladies lose all their fixtures.

Banyana ba Style suffered one defeat on the field this season (going down 2-1 to JVW in June) and a “technical loss” in the same month when they arrived late for their fixture against Royal AM, with the South African Football Association (SAFA) awarding the KwaZulu Natal outfit a 2-0 victory.

The Brazilians still have an outstanding fixture against Ezemvelo Ladies which was scheduled for 5 November 2025 at the Mpumalanga Stadium in Hammersdale, KwaZulu Natal, but Banyana ba Style to returned home without kicking a ball.

It will be interesting to see what the outcome of the matter will be.

Sundowns Ladies also have to face TS Galaxy Queens in the highly expected to conclude the 2025 season.

While the league title is all but wrapped up, the battle for runners up rages on between second-placed JVW and TS Galaxy Queens in third place, with the latter holding the advantage.

Sitting on 63 points, the Mpumalanga outfit is left with three fixtures, while the Blue Diamonds are on 66 and one match away from concluding the season.

Sizwe Sibiya’s charges have a difficult run in with the University of Pretoria (Tuks), the University of the Western Cape (UWC) and Sundowns Ladies on their menu.

In their remaining fixture, JVW take on a stubborn First Touch – in nine meetings, Janine van Wyk’s side has won only three times, drawn one and lost five.

KwaZulu Natal sides, Durban Ladies and Royal AM will bid farewell to the Hollywoodbets Super League at the end of the season after failing to survive the axe.
