Bongeka Gamede will be playing in the UEFA Women’s Champions League next season after her Danish side, Nordsjaelland FC finished second on the log standings in the 2024/2025 season of the Kvindeligaen – the Danish Women’s Football League.
The 26-year-old member of the Sasol-sponsored Banyana Banyana squad played her last match of the season on Saturday, 14 June 2025, managing a goalless draw against new league champions, Fortuna Hjorring – but it was enough to secure a place in Europe’s elite women’s football competition.
She joins Scotland-based Linda Motlhalo who also helped her employers, Glasgow City FC finish second and book a place in the UEFA Women’s Champions League.

Gamede’s side won the league last season but were unable to repeat the feat and had to battle hard for a Champions League spot, with third-placed Koge and fourth-placed Brondby breathing down their necks.
After 24 matches, Nordsjaelland registered 12 wins, three draws and nine losses -collecting 38 points in the process, just one ahead of both Koge and Brondby.
This is the Ixopo-born star’s first season in Denmark after she was scooped by the club in October last year, and, in addition to Champions League football, she has a silver medal after losing in the final of the Danish Women’s Cup

Gamede has played every minute of all the 14 games she featured in after joining the team in the second half of the season – 10 in the league and four in the cup competition.
She was named Player of the Match in the 1-0 defeat to Koge last weekend (Saturday, 7 June 2025) despite being on the losing side.
The South African all-rounder, who is comfortable as a defender and a midfielder, is expected back home soon as she has been named in the Banyana Banyana preliminary squad of 28 for the upcoming TotalEnergies CAF Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) which takes place in Morocco from 5-26 July 2025.
The players will assemble for a training camp from Thursday, 19 June in Johannesburg and the final team heading to North Africa will be announced on Monday, 23 June.
Gamede was part of the WAFCON winning team in 2022.
