Nigerian striker Asisat Oshoala’s good form for Barcelona Women continued in the Spanish Primera Division, as she opened her 2023 account with a goal against Sevilla Femeni in a 4-0 victory over the weekend (Saturday, 7 January).
This was her fourth goal in three matches.

Oshoala needed just 11 minutes to pounce for her first goal in the new year, before providing Claudia Pina with an assist for Barcelona’s second goal in the 34th minute.
The defending champions are yet to drop points this season.
After 13 round of matches, they are top of the table with 39 points – seven ahead of second-place Levante Women, and eight adrift of Real Madrid who are in third place.

Oshoala’s last goal in the league was against Alaves when Barcelona Women won 8-0 (20 November 2022).
The reigning African Woman Player of the Year closed off 2022 with two goals (10th & 16th minutes) and an assist against Rosengard in the penultimate group stages match of the UEFA Women’s Champions League (21 December 2022).

The Nigerian international has received her award for top goal scorer in the Spanish Liga Femeni – the Pichichi Award – at a glittering ceremony in Barcelona in December.
She shared it with Real Madrid’s Geyse Ferreira after both were tied on 20 goals each.
