Lindelani Ladies quick off the mark on Day 1 of Sasol League National Champs

KwaZulu-Natal Sasol League Champions, Lindelani Ladies, showed their intentions of winning the 2022 Play-offs when they emerged the biggest winners on Day 1 of the tournament held in Polokwane.

Lindelani eased past Royal Wizards, Northern Cape’s representative, in a 6-0 demolition job.

In this opening match of the week-long competition, Zethembiso Vilakazi grabbed a hat trick, with teammates captain Londeka Gumede, Anele Miya and Mandise Faya each scoring a goal to complete the rout.

Vilakazi was named Diski Queen of the Match.

The second fixture of the day saw Mpumalanga’s TS Galaxy battle hard for a share of the spoils against Dangerous Heroes Ladies from the Western Cape.

This was after the latter had taken a two-nil lead through Anelisa Makeleni before Mamphashe Popela and Rennika Khoza restored parity.

Njalo Fonzama walked away with the Diski Queen of the Match accolade.

Gauteng’s Tuks showed no mercy to the Eastern Cape’s Sophakama FC in the final game of the day, winning 3-0, goals courtesy of Sinamile Mkhwanazi and a brace from Wendy Shongwe.

Tuks led 2-0 at recess.

Zinise Norries was selected Diski Queen in this match.

Nine provincial winners are competing to be crowned the 2022 Sasol League National Champions, where they will walk away with the grand prize of R200 000.00 (two-hundred-thousand-rand).

The top two teams will also be promoted to the Hollywoodbets Super League for the 2023 season.

Three more matches will be played on Wednesday (19 October 2022) in Polokwane, with TS Galaxy kickstarting the proceedings with a clash against Copperbelt Ladies of Limpopo at 09h00.

Next up at 12h30 will be Tuks when they lock horns against the Free State’s Central University of Technology, while the Royal Wizards vs North West University Tawana FC will conclude proceedings at 15h30.
