Janine van Wyk returns from a coaching course in Scotland in time for UWC clash

After missing three JVW FC matches in the Hollywoodbets Super League, Janine van Wyk has returned in time for the big fixture against the stubborn University of the Western Cape (UWC) on Sunday, 22 May 2021.

The much-anticipated blockbuster of a clash takes place at the Wits Stadium at 15h00.

The Banyana Banyana captain did not feature in the victories against Golden Ladies, Durban Ladies and City Lads – which helped the Blue Diamonds shoot to the top of the league table, aided by then leaders Mamelodi Sundowns Ladies suffering a 2-0 at the hands of the same UWC.

The defender had previously spent a season and half in Scotland with giants Glasgow City before her contract expired. She helped the side clinch the 2020/21 league title.

Janine Van Wyk in Scotland for her coaching course

Van Wyk returned to Scotland recently for a week-long UEFA B Licence – Coaching Practice: Phase 2, which she described as “an amazing and insightful learning experience from quality instructors as it definitely enhanced my football experience.”

The course was delayed due to the Covid -19 Pandemic and this time they were able to get together for another week as they worked towards completion.

CC: How was your time in Scotland and how important is it for you to follow this path?

JvW: My time in Scotland was unbelievable, it’s like a second home to me. I really enjoyed my time there, and to be in a country where they take football extremely seriously, I feel it will only benefit my next chapter within football.

CC: What inspired you to go do a coaching course abroad? You have done Phase 2 practice, what next in this particular journey?

JvW: I’ve always wanted to enhance my football knowledge and when I was playing in Scotland I thought it would be a good idea to start my courses while I was abroad, in Europe where the game is evolving rapidly.

CC: Is this what we will see in your next chapter after you hang up your boots?

JvW: Yes most definitely. My life is football and I feel I should share my knowledge and experience to the next generation of players.

JVW FC celebrating another victory in the Hollywoodbets Super League

CC: On the club front, JVW FC is doing well in the league with a 100% record, this is surely a good start and is very much in line with the club’s aspirations of winning the league?

JvW: Yeah it’s been a dream start for the team, however, it’s still very early in the season to get excited about potentially winning the league. We still have a long way to go. A lot can happen. We should remain consistent in our preparations and take each game as serious as the first or last.

CC: On the national team matters, Banyana Banyana have been drawn against Nigeria, Burundi and Botswana, your thoughts?

JvW: It’s important that the team keeps working hard and focus on ourselves and improve on our previous performance. I am really forward to the tournament.
