HOLLYWOODBETS SUPER LEAGUE: Sundowns Ladies run riot against City Lads Ladies

Defending champions in the Hollywoodbets Super League, Mamelodi Sundowns Ladies, returned to action in fine style as they fired six past the visiting City Lads Ladies, without no reply.

The Brazilians had their midweek clash against Tuks Ladies postponed due to the Hollywoodbets COSAFA Women’s Championship 2023 currently underway in Gauteng.

Sundowns Ladies 6 – 0 City Lads Ladies

The Sundowns Ladies vs City Lads clash was one of four matches that took place this past weekend.

The reigning champions completed their double of the season against the Eastern Cape side – they won 3-1 in the first round – and the victory helped them close the gap slightly against log leaders, the University of the Western Cape to nine. Banyana Ba Style have two games in hand.

In the 6-0 win on Saturday (7 October), Boitumelo Rabale bagged a hattrick, with Miche Minnies, Lebogang Ramalepe and Refilwe Tholakele chipping in with a goal each.

“We’ve been away from the field for a while, so it was a fantastic feeling to be back in action. The game allowed us to apply everything we’ve been learning during our training sessions over the past few weeks. Today, we played with a sense of freedom and the goals flowed effortlessly, which was truly exciting. Building this momentum is essential as we prepare for the busy schedule ahead,” said goal scorer, Tholakele.

The Chloorkop outfit has now amassed 54 points in 21 matches, with 17 wins this season.

Jerry Tshabalala’s charges will be back on the field on Wednesday (11 October) as they play catch-up. They are away to Durban Ladies at the King Zwelithini Stadium, with a 13h00 kick-off.

COAL CITY WIZARDS 0 – 1 JVW FC

Third-placed JVW grabbed their 14th clean sheet of the season as they pushed a struggling Coal City Wizards deeper into the relegation quagmire in a 1-0 win at the Puma Stadium in Witbank.

The Blue Diamond’s last loss was against the defending champions – 2-3 back in April. They have now gone 14 games unbeaten, with 11 wins in the process.

The Blue Diamonds are now on 53 points, just one behind Sundowns Ladies.

Coal City Wizards are second from bottom, on 13 points after 25 games.

FIRST TOUCH ACADEMY 0 – 2 THUNDERBIRDS LADIES

Thunderbirds Ladies eased their relegation worries a little when they returned from Limpopo with maximum points against First Touch Academy at the Oscar Mpete Stadium (University of Limpopo) in a 2-0 win.

The result saw the Eastern Cape side, who are 14th on the table, get to 17 points – four more than Coal City Wizards.

This was Thunderbirds’ second win a row, and they are left with four matches to complete their season.

MA-INDIES LADIES 2 – 2 RICHMOND UNITED

In the second match of the double header at the Oscar Mpete Stadium, bottom of the table Ma-Indies Ladies could only grab a point when they played to a 2-all draw against the visiting Richmond United.

With only eight points after 26 games, it appears the Limpopo side has ran out of matches to save their season, and could be relegated before the curtain falls down.

UWC, Royal AM, TS Galaxy Queens, Tuks Ladies, UJ Ladies, Durban Ladies, TUT Ladies and Copperbelt Ladies were not action this past weekend.
