HOLLYWOODBETS SUPER LEAGUE: Sundowns Ladies merciless vs Durban Ladies, reduce gap at the top

Two matches, two wins, 12 goals…

Reigning Hollywoodbets Super League champions Mamelodi Sundowns defeated Durban Ladies 6-0 in their midweek clash (Wednesday, 11 October 2023) played at the King Zwelithini Stadium in Durban to reduce the gap to just six points against log leaders University of the Western Cape (UWC).

With a game in hand, the Brazilians are now on 53 points, while the Capetonians have 63.

This was Sundowns Ladies’ second victory in succession by the same score margin after defeating City Lads Ladies on Saturday, 7 October 2023.

The Brazilians were back in midweek action as they play catch-up – the Durban Ladies match was postponed from 16 September due to safety reasons.

Super sub Melinda Kgadiete came off the bench and took the match ball home after bagging a hattrick.

The Banyana Banyana forward’s 20-minutes blitz was enough to confirm the Brazilians’ maximum points as she scored in the 72’ and added two more in referee’s optional time.

Refilwe Tholakele had opened the scoring in the 17th minute, with Lebogang Ramalepe and Boitumelo Rabale (scorer of a hattrick in the last match vs City Ladies) chipping in with one each.

Kgadiete is now second on the scorers chart at her club on 15 goals, just one behind Rabale, followed by Andisiwe Mgcoyi (7), Chuene Morifi (6), Lelona Daweti (5), Ramalepe (5) and Tholakele (4).

Durban Ladies has lost all eight games against Banyana ba Style since the start of the South African elite women’s league, with the Brazilians netting a massive 30 goals and conceding only three against the KwaZulu Natal outfit.

“The game was not as smooth as the score line suggests because Durban Ladies were very disciplined and well-positioned at times. But we showcased our attacking abilities when it mattered the most. I am happy with my performance having come on from the bench. This is a very good victory and we are all excited with our attacking output today,” Kgadiete told the Sundowns Media Department.

Sundowns Ladies return to action when they host a JVW side that has not lost in the last 14 outings, winning 11 games in the process.

The clash will take place on Saturday, 14 October 2023 at the Lucas Moripe Stadium in Atteridgeville, Pretoria.

Kick-off is at 15h00.
