Week 4 of the 2024 season of the Hollywoodbets Super League served up some surprises with interesting results.
All eyes were in Cape Town for the midweek action of the South African elite women’s football league where reigning champions Mamelodi Sundowns Ladies visited the University of the Western Cape (UWC).
Banyana ba Style suffered their first defeat of the season as they fell 1-0 to the students. Ronnel Donnelly got off the bench and marked her debut with a well-taken first touch. She rose the highest to beat Sedilame Bosija in the Sundowns’ goal to give her side the highly celebrated victory late in the game (80’).
This was the first loss for the Brazilians after three wins on the trot – but they still remain top of the table on nine points.
With this result, the Capetonians collected their second ever victory against the 2023 league champions in nine matches – the other win (1-0) was registered two years ago (15 May 2022), interestingly, the fixture also took place in the Mother City.
The latest success saw the Blues leap from the ninth spot to fifth on the table on seven points, just two behind the log leaders.

There was jubilation at the Old Peter Mokaba Stadium in Polokwane when First Touch Ladies defeated new kids on the block, the University of Fort Hare 1 – 0 to grab their first win of the season – leaving Royal AM and Thunderbirds as the only teams still winless after four rounds of fixtures.
Since their victory in the opening match, the students of Fort Hare have now suffered three losses in a row.
Eastern Cape’s Thunderbirds Ladies are still without point after going down 3 – 0 to TUT Matsatsantsa at the TUT Pretoria Stadium. The coastal side is bottom of the table.
Also facing a huge struggle is KwaZulu Natal’s Royal AM who are yet to win a match. They could only manage to share the spoils in a 1-all draw away to the University of Johannesburg in Soweto – their second stalemate of the season.
Royal AM is second from the bottom.
JVW had to come from behind to register a hard-fought 2-1 win over a stubborn Durban Ladies at the King Zwelithini Stadium.
Two goals in the 87th and referee’s optional time were enough to see the Blue Diamonds shine and return home with all three points. Recently promoted 18-year-old Tanna Hollis grabbed the winner with her third goal in three games – all from the bench, helping her side to back-to-back victories.
As expected, a tough battle ensued at the University of Pretoria Stadium between hosts Amatuks and Northern Cape’s Richmond United. The home side emerged victorious 2-1 with their third victory of the season, taking them to nine points – level with Sundowns Ladies, but third due to an inferior goal difference.
TS Galaxy Queens is proving to be a hard-nut to crack as they travelled to the Isaac Wolfson Stadium in Gqeberha and walked away with all three points following a 2-nil win over City Lads Ladies.
With their third victory of the season, the Mpumalanga outfit climbed to second on the table – also level on nine points with the defending champions and Amatuks.
