Former Banyana Banyana keeper joins JVW

Hollywoodbets Super League side JVW FC have made clear their intentions of challenging for the title when they roped in former Banyana Banyana goalkeeper Thokozile “TK” Mndaweni.

She joins from Sasol League side Croesus Ladies after leading them to fourth place in the National Champions held recently in Durban.

Armed with a FIFA Goalkeeping coaching course attendance certificate, TK will fill the role of player/coach for the first team, where she will also have for the fight for the number one jersey with Kaylin Swart and Yolula Tsawe.

“This is one of the most amazing clubs in women’s football and I feel privileged to be part of this team. I can only hope to learn and grow from such a great environment. I am honoured to be joining JWV as I know many aspire to be here, and I am confident that it will be all hands on deck as we challenge for the Hollywoodbets Super League title,” said Mndaweni on her new club’s website.

The former Banyana Banyana number one has amassed a lot of experience over the years, earning 89 caps for South Africa.

During that period she won bronze and silver medals in the 2010 and 2012 respectively in the Africa Women Cup of Nations.

It was also in 2010 that she was crowned the Sasol League National Champs Goalkeeper of the tournament – after winning the women’s league title with Palace Super Falcons.

Mndaweni was also part of the squad that played in the 2012 London Olympic Games.

“TK comes here with a wealth of experience and with a rich history when it comes to goalkeeping in this country. I believe with her presence, we will be an even much better team. I am looking forward to the healthy competition in the goalkeeping section which can only make that department stronger than it is and help our players perform to the optimum. Welcome TK and all the best,” said JVW FC coach Musa Arthur.

Mndaweni has also played for Moroka Swallows and UJ.
