South Africa’s Jermaine Seoposenwe scored in referee’s optional time to send Monterrey to the semi-finals of the Clausura 2025 in the Liga MX Femenil in Mexico following a second leg 1-all draw against bitter rivals, Thembi Kgatlana’s UANL Tigres.
With the first fixture having ended 1-1, the aggregate score is 2-2 and Monterey advance to the next phase due to a better position on the log in regular season – they finished fourth, just one spot ahead of Tigres who are fifth.

As expected, it was a fiercely contested match but Seoposenwe had the last word on the outcome in the early hours of this morning (Tuesday, 29 April 2025 SA Time).
The Sasol-sponsored Banyana Banyana international came off the bench at the start of the second half and found the winner in the 93rd minute. This after the opposition had taken the lead and looked well on their way to victory.
Seoposenwe, who was named the Player of the Match, has now scored eight goals this season in all competitions, one more than Kgatlana.

“I feel happy, happy for the team. I’m happy though, we’ve worked hard for this moment. We understand what it is to be in these moments, we’ve been here before and my team is always just working hard to get the goal and so we had a lot of chances, but they weren’t going in and finally one went in. But yeah, it’s all the hard work that we put in into that moment and I might have been the one that scored the goal, but I think everyone worked hard and did their part, played their role, and that’s the outcome,” Seoposenwe told the media in Mexico.

This was the 39th Women’s Regio Classic – and the last time the two met Rayadas emerged victorious in the final of the Apertura 2024 Tournament.
Monterey went to win on penalties, claiming their first double league championship (Apertura and Clausura) in the history of the club .
Following the latest victory, Seoposenwe and company will take on Pachuca in the last four – in another home and away clash.

They first meet on Thursday (1 May) with the reverse fixture scheduled for Sunday, 4 May.
Pachuca, who finished second in the regular season, drew 1-1 against Atlas before turning the tables and walloping them 4-1 for a 5-1 aggregate victory.
The two legged final will take place on Friday, 9 May with the second leg set for Monday, 12 May.

Seoposenwe’s exploits come at the back of compatriot Linda Motlhalo also booking her ticket to the final of the Women’s Scottish Cup with Glasgow City in Scotland
Nine time cup winners City defeated Motherwell 4-0 in the semi-finals on Saturday (26 May) to set up a date with the cup defending champions Rangers, who brushed aside Aberdeen 5-0.
The final will be played on Sunday, 25 May – and if anything goes according to plan, Motlhalo could lift her second trophy with the club following the league title success two seasons ago.
