Banyana Banyana’s Linda Motlhalo scores a scorcher for Glasgow City

Linda Motlhalo scored a brilliant second half goal to help Glasgow City to a 3-0 win against Hearts in the Scottish Women’s Premier League over the weekend (Sunday, 7 May 2023).

And this augurs well for the Sasol-sponsored Banyana Banyana who are heading to their second FIFA Women’s World Cup in July.

Motlhalo did not play in her club’s 2-1 win over Hibs in their previous fixture.

She was the only change for the Hearts clash as she was returned to the starting 11 – and repaid her coach’s trust with a stunning drive just outside the penalty box in the 61st minute, giving the goalkeeper no chance to make it 2-0 for Glasgow City.

Motlhalo was named Player of the Match – this was her third goal since joining the club at the beginning of this year.

Claire Walsh had given the log leaders the advantage in the 18th minute, while Lauren Davidson sealed victory with the third goal in the 68th minute.

The win was enough to help Glasgow City maintain their five point lead at the of the SWPL with three rounds of fixtures remaining.

After 29 games, Motlhalo’s side has 77 points after 25 victories, two draws and two losses.

They next face Celtic on Thursday (11 May) away, then welcome Partick Thistle on Sunday (14 May 2023) at Petershill Park before rounding off the season with a clash against Rangers at the Broadwood Stadium.
