BANYANA BANYANA: Seoposenwe inspires Monterrey to victory with a goal

Jermaine Seoposenwe was on target for her Mexican side FC Monterrey in a 3-2 win over U.N.A.M Pumas on Week 7 of the Liga MX Femenil on Saturday, 10 February 2024.

Led by the Capetonian, Rayadas bounced back to victory after a heavy 4-nil drubbing by Club America in their last outing.

The Banyana Banyana forward opened the scoring in the 17th minute after receiving a delightful defence-splitting pass, and she beat her marker to find the back of the net for a 1-0 lead.

This was Seoposenwe’s fourth goal of the season.

However, Monterrey gave up their lead and were soon trailing 2-1 before Myra Delgadillo levelled matters. It was left to Rebeca Bernal to restore their advantage with 15 minutes left on the clock, earning them a hard-fought victory, their fifth in seven matches.

They have also registered one draw and one loss, and now lie third on the table on 16 points.

Thembi Kgatlana was a second half substitute for Tigres UANL who beat Toluca Women 7-0 also on Saturday. The reigning champions are the only side with a hundred percent record – seven wins in as many matches.

They are top the table on 21 points, followed by Club America who are level on 16 points with Rayadas, but the former have a better goal difference.

A day earlier (Friday, 9 February), the struggling Mazatlán squandered a 2-nil lead and suffered a 3-2 defeat to Juarez FC – their fifth loss of the season.

Mazatlán have won just two games and occupy position 13 on the league table.

Hilda Magaia played the entire 90 minutes, while Sinoxolo Cesane is still unavailable for the Sinaloa-based outfit as she is recovering from injury – which has led to her not being called up to the Sasol-sponsored Banyana Banyana squad that will face Tanzania in a two-legged crucial third round 2024 Paris Olympic Games qualifier later this month.
