The Sasol-sponsored Banyana Banyana retained their second position on the continent and 54th in the latest FIFA/Coca Cola Women’s World Rankings released today (Thursday, 13 October 2022).
Despite lifting their maiden continental title in July, the South Africans were not able to unseat Africa’s number one team, Nigeria who moved just one step up to 45 in the world.

Cameroon, Ghana and Cote d’Ivoire are third, fourth and fifth respectively.
Completing the top 10 are Equatorial Guinea, Morocco, Tunisia, Algeria and Zambia.

The quartet of South Africa, Nigeria, Morocco and Zambia has qualified for the 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup in Australia and New Zealand, and the latest rankings will be used to determine their seedings for the final World Cup Draw later this month (22 October).
World champions USA remain top of the rankings, followed by Sweden who took the place of Germany as the latter has fallen into third place. England and France make up the top five.

Completing the best 10 in the world are Spain, Canada, Netherlands, Brazil and Korea DPR.
A record 187 national teams have now been listed in the rankings after the inclusion of Syria and Pakistan from the August rankings.
