Banyana Banyana striker Jermaine Seoposenwe continued with her goal-scoring spree in the Liga BBVA MX Femenil (the top-tier of Mexican Women’s League).
She was on target when she netted in a 7-0 rout against Mazatlan in the first match of the second half of the season – the Clausara (each season has two halves: an Apertura tournament, which takes place from July to December, and a Clausura tournament, which takes place from January to May).

The victory saw Juarez occupy top spot on the table – for the first time in four years (with 16 rounds of matches remaining).
This was Seoposenwe’s fifth goal in 13 matches for her new side which she joined in August last year after parting ways with Portugal’s SC Braga.
The forward could have opened her account in the fourth minute but could not connect well – she was however not to be denied in the 89th minute as she benefitted from a rebound, slotting the ball beyond the reach of Mazatlan goalkeeper to make it 6-0, despite being a player down after Magaly Cortes was sent off in the 30th minute.
The other goals came from Cásarez, Delgadillo (2), Zuazua, Sumiko Gutiérrez, Aideé Sosa (own goal).
Juarez next face Querétaro away at Olímpico Alameda Stadium on Friday, January 13.

In Italy, co-captain of the Sasol-sponsored Banyana Banyana, Refiloe Jane, was on the scoresheet for her Italian Serie A side US Sassuolo Calcio but could not help them avoid a 2-1 defeat to Serie B side Chievo Verona Women in the Italian Women’s Cup over the weekend.

Trailing 0-1 at the break from a Claudio Ferrato goal in the 11th minute, Soweto-born midfielder restored parity when she rifled a powerful shot just outside the box after the restart.
But Dallagiacoma grabbed the winning goal in the 64th minute, breaking the hearts of their more-fancied opponents and denying them a quarterfinal berth in the cup competition.

This was the first match of the year for Sassuolo, as they on their winless run.
In the last match of 2022, the Serie A outfit suffered a 1-0 loss to Jane’s former team, Milan.
Sassuolo is seventh on the table in the 10-team league with two wins in 12 matches. They lost six games.
They next travel to the high-riding second-placed Juventus for a league clash on Sunday, 15 January 2023.
