WORLD CUP DESK: IN PICTURES – Banyana Banyana celebrate Mandela Day in New Zealand

With the 18th of July being celebrated around the world as Mandela Day, the support staff members of the Sasol-sponsored Banyana Banyana also joined in on the festivities in Wellington, New Zealand.

Mandela Day is an annual global celebration that takes place on 18 July to honour the life and legacy of Nelson Mandela. This day is a call to action for individuals, communities, and organisations to take time to reflect on Mandela’s values and principles and to make a positive impact in their own communities.

South Africa is in Wellington, New Zealand for final preparations ahead of the start of the month-long 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup that starts on Thursday, 20 July – and the support staff, accompanied by the members of the South African Commission in New Zealand,  took time off their busy schedule to give back.

Banyana Banyana face Sweden on Sunday, 23 July in their opening match of the 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup at the Wellington Regional Stadium.

Kickoff is 07h00 SA time.
