Banyana Banyana duo on the move in Mexico

The Banyana Banyana pair of Jermaine Seoposenwe and Noxolo Cesane will be wearing different playing kits next season after parting ways with their clubs in the Mexican league, Liga MX Femenil.

Both players are currently in camp with the South African Senior Women’s National Team as they await the announcement of the final squad that will travel to the 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup in Australia and New Zealand.

The two African Champions were instrumental in helping South Africa lift the 2022 CAF Women’s Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco.

Cesane joined Tigres Femenil in February this year from French side Stade de Reims Féminines – she previously played for Hollywoodbets Super League side University of the Western Cape (UWC).

But she spent only five months in Mexico until the end of the season.

The South African forward is now focused on the upcoming global women’s football spectacle, during which time she will be looking for possible suitors to join post the tournament.

And just like that another journey comes to an end! Today I bid farewell to @fcjuarezfemenil.

I want to thank the club for the opportunity. Together we made history, and I know the people of Juarez will always remember that. I want to wish the club and it’s fans everything of the best for the future.

Gracias a todas!

Seoposenwe announced her move on social media, saying she has left FC Juarez – which she joined in August last year.

She is now on the books of one of the biggest teams in the league, Club de Fútbol Monterrey Femenil, also known as CF Monterrey.

The forward made a huge impact at her previous employers, and rewrote the history books in women’s football in Mexico.

She scored the fastest goal in Liga MX Femenil, just a month after signing for FC Juarez – this was when she bagged a brace (Monday, 26 September 2022) in a 3-0 victory over Necaxa and named Player of the Match.

Her influence continued when the club made history by qualifying for their first ever Liguilla (play-offs) in the league, but lost out in the quarterfinals.

Seoposenwe joined FC Juarez from Portuguese outfit SC Braga shortly before the start of the 2022 TotalEnergies Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) in Morocco. She netted two goals in the tournament in North Africa – one each against Nigeria and Tunisia.

The Capetonian has also played for Real Betis in Spain as well as Gintra Universitetas from Lithuania.

At national team level, Seoposenwe is a Continental Champion, in addition to have participated in the 2010 FIFA U17 Women’s World Cup, the 2019 FIFA Women’s World Cup, as well as featuring in the London 2012 and Rio 2016 Olympic Games.

She has signed a two year contract and will join her new teammates at CF Monterrey after the World Cup.
