Log leaders Sundowns Ladies looking to cement their position in the Hollywoodbets Super League

Week 14 of the 2023 Hollywoodbets Super League will see defending champions Mamelodi Sundowns Ladies looking to cement their top spot when they face the University of Johannesburg on Sunday (21 May 2023).

University of Johannesburg vs Sundowns Ladies: 15H00

The two will meet in Soweto at the UJ Soccer Stadium

The hosts have been going through a rough patch – they last tasted victory six games ago, when they beat First Touch 3-0. Subsequently they have played two draws and suffered three defeats – including a 5-0 drubbing at the hands of Royal AM this past weekend.

The Brazilians come into this fixture in high spirits after reclaiming their top spot following a convincing 3-0 win over former log leaders the University of the Western Cape (UWC).

Banyana ba Style have won five in row, and scored 24 goals in the process –  UJ will have to be at their best to stop them, which will be a tall order as the Students have lost all their previous six matches against the Brazilians.

University of Pretoria vs Ma-Indies: 11H30

At the same venue, but much earlier, newcomers University of Pretoria (Tuks Ladies) will be hoping to compound problems for bottom of the table Ma-Indies – in their first ever meeting.

The Limpopo outfit has only managed two wins in 13 games, losing the other 11, while Tuks Ladies is quietly climbing up the ladder – they are in eighth position.

Copperbelt Ladies vs City Lads Ladies: 11H30

At the Old Peter Mokaba Stadium in Polokwane, new kids on the block Copperbelt Ladies will go toe to toe with the struggling 14th-placed City Lads Ladies from the Eastern Cape. In only their second season in top flight football, the coastal side has been dancing with relegation since their debut year. In the current campaign they have won only two games, while Copperbelt Ladies, who are in 10th place, have collected maximum points on five occasions.

TS Galaxy Queens vs First Touch: 15H00

In the last match of Sunday, the high-riding TS Galaxy Queens will be looking to extend their winning streak to eight since their draw against JVW on the 18th of March.

Under new coach Sizwe Sibiya – who hasn’t lost a game since he took over seven matches ago – the Rockets have been flying very high, while First Touch have been inconsistent.

The two sides face off at the Solomon Mahlangu Stadium in KwaMhlanga. The hosts are third and a win keeps them within touching distance of the top two teams.

This will be the first ever meeting between TS Galaxy and First Touch.

Four other matches will be played on Saturday (20 May), with a 15h00 start.

UWC vs JVW: 15H00

It’s the battle of the Blues in Cape Town when second-placed UWC host JVW at the UWC Stadium.

After their 3-0 loss to the defending league champions last weekend – their second defeat of the season – the Blues will be hoping to return to winning ways when they welcome the Blue Diamonds.

The visitors have been having favourable results lately – since their loss to Sundowns Ladies about a month ago, they have managed a draw and three wins.

But the history this fixture favours the Students who have won two of their previous four meetings, with the other two drawn – but then again, anything can happen.

TUT vs Richmond United: 15H00

Last weekend the Tshwane University of Technology (TUT) managed their first win in eight outings, but now they come up against a wounded Richmond United outfit that lost two matches in a row for the first time this season.

TUT has been going through a rough patch but will be hoping the latest results are the start of positive outcomes going forward. The clash takes place at the TUT Pretoria Stadium.

Coal City Wizards vs Durban Ladies: 15H00

KwaZulu Natal’s Royal AM will travel to East London for a match-up with Thunderbirds Ladies at the Bunkers Hill Grounds.

The visitors just returned from a successful trip to Johannesburg where they thrashed UJ Ladies 5-0, and will be hoping for more of the same in the Eastern Cape. The Mpumalanga outfit conceded 15 goals in their last three games, and could not find the back of the net. The visitors will be eager to grab back to back victories after defeating City Lads in their previous fixture.
