KZN Derby, battle of the universities, all on offer on Week 10 of the Hollywoodbets Super League

Durban Ladies vs Royal AM: 13h00

The KwaZulu Natal Derby between Durban Ladies and Royal AM headlines Week 10 of the 2023 season of the Hollywoodbets Super League.

The two sides will be the first in action on Saturday (22 April 2023) as they face off at the Sugar Ray Xulu Stadium in Clermont.

Previously playing as Bloemfontein Celtic Ladies, Royal AM holds a slight advantage against their hosts.

In six meetings, the visitors have won two matches, with three drawn and one win for Durban Ladies.

Both teams had contrasting results this past weekend – Royal AM suffered defeat at home while Durban Ladies won on the road.

JVW vs Mamelodi Sundowns Ladies: 15h00

Since their promotion to South Africa’s elite women’s league in 2021, JVW has never defeated Mamelodi Sundowns Ladies.

In the four matches played between the two antagonists, the defending league champions have won three with one game drawn.

Both sides come into this encounter after wins in their respective fixtures this past weekend – making this a potentially explosive clash at the UJ Soccer Stadium in Soweto.

UWC vs Tuks Ladies: 15h00

The battle of learning institutions will take place at Parow Park in Cape Town – this is when the University of the Western Cape (UWC) hosts newcomers, the University of Pretoria (Amatuks).

This is the first ever meeting between these students in the elite women’s league, and could provide fireworks as UWC comes into the fixture at the back of their first loss this season, while Tuks Ladies are in high spirits following a win last weekend.

The latter are expected to unveil former UWC player Thalea Smidt who joined Amatuks from Sundowns Ladies.

Ma-Indies Ladies vs City Lads Ladies: 15h00

Bottom-of-the-table Ma-Indies will entertain Eastern Cape’s City Lads Ladies who are blowing hot and cold.

The Limpopo side is aware that time, as well as matches, are running out for them to get out of the relegation quagmire, and will be hoping for a change of fortunes.

This will be their third meeting and the head to head record gives them one victory each.

Coal City Wizards vs TUT: 15h00

In the last match of Saturday, the Tshwane University of Technology (TUT) will travel to Mpumalanga for a date with second-from-bottom Coal City Wizards at the Puma Stadium in Witbank.

Both teams lost their previous respective fixtures.

The remaining three matches will played on Sunday (23 April).

Copperbelt Ladies vs Thunderbirds Ladies: 11h30

Kick-starting the proceedings will be the first ever meeting between newcomers Copperbelt Ladies of Limpopo and the struggling Thunderbirds Ladies from the Eastern Cape.

The two face off at the Oscar Mpetha Stadium – University of Limpopo.

The visitors notched up their only win of 2023 last weekend and will be looking to continue with the momentum.

But they are up against a team that has a spring in their step after their famous 4-2 victory away to UJ Ladies in their previous fixture.

First Touch vs Richmond United: 15h00

In the second match at the same venue, Northern Cape’s Richmond United will make the long trek to Polokwane to take on First Touch Academy.

The hosts used to dominate this fixture at the inception of the league – winning the first three matches convincingly – 6-1, 5-1 and 6-3.

But the tide changed in the second half of the 2021 season when they played to a goalless draw – and last season Richmond United won the last two games – 2-0 and 7-0.

And if current form is anything to go by, the Northern Cape side seem set to continue with their dominance. In this campaign so far, they have won six games and lost two, while First Touch has managed only one victory.

TS Galaxy Queens vs UJ Ladies: 15h00

Sparks are also expected to fly at the Solomon Mahlangu Stadium in KwaMhlanga, Mpumalanga when the rejuvenated TS Galaxy Queens welcome the wounded University of Johannesburg (UJ Ladies). The latter lost to newcomers Copperbelt Ladies last weekend – their first defeat at home in six matches.

The Rockets on the other hand are walking on air after inflicting the first defeat on UWC this season.

This will be the first ever meeting between TS Galaxy and UJ Ladies.
