Banyana Banyana’s Seoposenwe continues to shine in Mexico

Banyana Banyana forward Jermaine Seoposenwe notched up her fourth goal of the season with a well-taken header as FC Juarez defeated a stubborn UANL Tigres 3-1 in the Liga MX Femenil (Mexican Women’s League).

The match was played at the Benito Juarez University Olympic Stadium on Friday (10 February 2023).

Seoposenwe put in another sterling performance as she provided the assist for the first goal and sealed off the victory when she netted the third.

Jasmin Casarez had opened the scoring for Juarez in the 9th minute, before Tigres equalised to make it  1-all at the break.

Myra Delgadillo pounced in the 61st minute to restore their lead, with Jermaine increasing the advantage by grabbing the third two minutes later (71st), when she outjumped the defence, giving her side a well-deserved win.

Juarez is now in fifth place with 15 points after six rounds of matches played. They have won five and lost just once.

Trigres, which recently secured the signature of Banyana Banyana midfielder Noxolo Cesane from France, is fourth, tied on 15 points with Juarez.

Seoposenwe and Cesane are part of Sasol-sponsored South African Senior Women’s National Team that is scheduled to participate in the 2023 Turkish Cup in preparations for the FIFA Women’s World Cup in July this year.

Head coach Desiree Ellis will be hoping the Cape Town-born Seoposenwe continues with her fine performances in the national team.

In September last year, the forward rewrote the Mexican history books in the women’s football when she netted just nine seconds into the match against Necaxa.

Seoposenwe went on to score a brace in that fixture and was named the Player of the Match.

She joined Juarez in August 2022.
