Prolific Oshoala hits third hattrick of the season in four matches

Five-time African Woman Player of the Year, Asisat Oshoala just can’t stop scoring goals.

The Nigerian international registered her third hattrick of the season in just four matches in a row for Barcelona Femeni in the Spanish Women’s League as they thrashed 14th-placed Real Betis 7-0 this past weekend (Sunday, 5 February) at the Estadi Johan Cruyff.

With her side leading three nil, the Super Falcons vice-captain was introduced in the second half (59th), replacing Ana Maria Crnogorcevic.

Two minutes later (61st) she opened her day’s account, to stretch the lead to four-nil, before grabbing her second of the day in the 77th minute.

Oshoala had the last say in the match, as she completed her hattrick in referee’s optional time to make it 7-0.

Earlier, the Nigerian forward grabbed two hattricks – the first against Levante Las Planas in a 7-0 win, and the other was scored against Granadilla Tenerife as Barcelona Femeni cruised to a 6-0 victory.

With 10 goals in the last four matches – in between she netted one against Valencia – Oshoala now sits on 17 in 18 rounds of fixtures this season.

She tops the scoring charts in Spain, with one strike ahead of Redondo Ferer of Levante, while Real Madrid’s Esther González is in third place with 15 goals.

The former Liverpool and Arsenal star has managed 21 goals across all season, and has more than 100 goals to her name since joining Barcelona Femeni four years (January 2019).

Oshoala’s exploits for her European side has seen them lead the log standings with 54 points, after 18 wins in as many games. They have hit the back of the net 80 times so far this season, and conceded just four.

The 2021 European Champions are the only team yet to lose or draw in La Liga F – while second-placed Real Madrid has suffered defeat once, and also drawn another match.

The Catalans are most likely to extend their winning run when they face bottom-of-the-table Deportivo Alaves in a league match on 11 February.
