The University of the Western Cape (UWC) needs just one point from their remaining fixture in the 2022 Hollywoodbets Super League season to finish in second place.
The Capetonians maintained their three point lead from bitter rivals, the Tshwane University of Technology TUT), on Sunday (20 November 2022) with an emphatic 5-0 victory over the relegated Golden Ladies.
TUT occupied second position overnight after their hard-fought 2-1 win over Ma-Indies a day earlier (Saturday, 19 November 2022).
The Western Cape side is sitting pretty on 65 points, with TUT three behind.
In the final match of the year, UWC will be hoping they get the desired results (a draw or a win) in a tricky clash when they host a stubborn Durban Ladies on Super Saturday – 26 November 2022 – where all the teams will be in action to wrap up the season.
The first round encounter between the two sides was a six-goal thriller – with the Capetonians claiming all three points following a 4-2 win, this after a late rally by the Durbanites to score two goals in the last 13 minutes for a nervy end to the match. UWC had scored all their four goals in the first half.
TUT, on the other hand, will perhaps have the easiest conclusion to the current league campaign as they face Golden Ladies who haven’t won a single match in their last nine outings, playing only one draw.
The two sides last met in August this year and TUT were merciless in a 5-1 drubbing over the then relegation-haunted North West outfit.
Last season, the Tshwane side finished in second place behind champions Mamelodi Sundowns Ladies, while UWC took third spot.

JVW, who had an outside chance to finish in second place, fell out of the race after suffering a 3-2 loss to coach Nthabeleng Modiko’s University of Johannesburg (UJ).
The Blue Diamonds had to win all their remaining three games and hope that either UWC or TUT slip up in the run-in.
JVW will be guaranteed a fourth place finish for the second-year running as fifth-placed Bloemfontein Celtic Ladies will not be able to overtake them – the latter is on 50 points with one match remaining, while the Bedfordview-based outfit is already on 54 points with two games to go.
Celtic Ladies are also in danger of dropping further down if they don’t get three points – as both UJ and Richmond United breathing down their necks with 48 points each.
But all will be revealed on Super Saturday – the last day of this year’s league campaign.
