Sundowns Ladies capture signature of Salome Kekana

Reigning African champions, Mamelodi Sundowns Ladies, have added more firepower to their arsenal.

The Brazilians have confirmed the signature of Gobonnelwe Salome Kekana from their rivals Tshwane University of Technology (TUT).

The Soshanguve-born Kekana is an allrounder who can play both in defence and attack, as evidenced during her  stay at TUT.

“After spending 7 years with TUT Ladies, making the switch to Sundowns is a new chapter for me. I learned a lot while at TUT and I am hoping to learn much more at my new home. Sundowns is a team that has dominated women’s football in South Africa and I am ready to contribute to the team’s quest of winning more titles both domestically, continentally, and beyond,” said the 26-year old on the club’s website.

“I was welcomed warmly into the team and I am willing to learn from the highly talented players in the fold. I am already looking forward to the new season with Masandawana.”

She added that she joined the Brazilians to challenge herself more.

“I am a big fan of challenging myself because it brings out the best in me. Making this move to Sundowns is a step in the right direction for me as I am looking to improve on my craft as a footballer. I believe strongly that this move will further amplify my strengths and I cannot wait to get started on the pitch,” added Kekana.

Her new coach, Jerry Tshabalala, sang her praises.

“Bringing Salome Kekana to the team gives us so much joy because we know what she is capable of. Her versatility is one of her many strengths and she will give us something both defensively and offensively. Gabo has a good left foot and that means we will have enough support for Chuene Morifi. We are very excited with the acquisition of such a talented player and we are looking forward to integrating her into the squad as we prepare to defend the three titles we won last season.”
