Mamelodi Sundowns Ladies head coach Godfrey Sapula is hoping for good news when his new recruit, Ronnel Donnelly undergoes an MRI scan on Wednesday (27 August 2025).
The former University of the Western Cape forward was stretchered off in her side’s hard-fought 1-0 win over Zesco Ndola Girls of Zambia in the second match of the CAF Women’s Champions League COSAFA qualifier on Sunday (24 August 2025) currently underway in Johannesburg.
Donnelly came on in the 64th minute but lasted only 24 minutes on the field – leaving the Brazilians with only 10 players as they had already completed their substitutions. But the tournament hosts managed to hold on for a crucial win that saw them collect six points in two games.

“She is going for a scan tomorrow (Wednesday, 27 August 2025) but we are just hoping that we’ll get positive news,” said a concerned Sapula.
Indications are that she will miss the rest of the tournament with only two matches left in the competition – the last four and the final – to be played this week on Friday and Sunday respectively.

Sundowns Ladies will be back in action on Friday (29 August) and will be watching with keen interest who their opponents in the semi-final will be.
The last group stage matches on Wednesday (27 August) will see Gaborone United Ladies take on Kick4Life in Group B at 12h00, followed by a Group C fixture between Herentals Queens and Olympic de Moroni at 3pm.
