JVW registers first ever win over Sundowns Ladies in the Hollywoodbets Super League

JVW registered a morale-boosting 2-1 victory over defending champions Mamelodi Sundowns Ladies in a pulsating Hollywoodbets Super League clash on Sunday (15 June 2025) at the UJ Stadium in Soweto.

This was their first ever triumph over the Brazilians in 10 matches – with the latter winning seven and two encounters ending in draws.

The winner came through a long-range strike by midfielder Jessica Wade in the 43rd minute, adding to the 28th minute goal by Gabriela Salgado to give the home side the lead, which was cancelled by Melinda Kgadiete (42’).

After 13 outings, the Blue Diamonds are now third on the table on 27 points, level with second-placed TS Galaxy Queens, as the latter has a superior goal difference.

JVW haven’t lost a match since 9 March when they suffered a 2-0 defeat to Sundowns Ladies and are on an 11-game unbeaten run.

All 10 matches between the two sides have produced goals – 35 in total – with the reigning champions claiming 24 while the Blue Diamonds grabbed 11.

This was Sundowns Ladies’ second defeat of the season following their “technical loss” to Royal AM after they failed to arrive on time for a fixture last weekend.

They remain top of the table after 13 games, and are on 31 points, four ahead of TS Galaxy Queens.
