Defending Hollywoodbets Super League champions, Mamelodi Sundowns reigned supreme as they annihilated City Lads Ladies 7-1 in one of the eight matches played on Wednesday, 1 May 2024.
Banyana ba Style were business-like on International Workers Day and the contest was over in 33 minutes with a brace from Refilwe Tholakele (5’, 9’) and one each from Boitumelo Rabale (12’) and Asanda Hadebe.
City Lads would pull one back after the restart (50’) but Miche Minnies (67’) and Rhoda Mulaudzi (85’), as well as Rabale (90’) with her second, put the issue beyond doubt. This was the biggest win of the midweek clashes.

Sundowns Ladies have now beaten the Eastern Cape side in all five meetings (8-0, 3-0, 3-1, 6-0 and 7-1).
After nine rounds of fixtures, the Brazilians remain top of the table on 24 points following eight wins and a draw, while the Gunners are 13th as they suffered their sixth defeat in 10 outings. They have two draws and same number of wins.

In the Mother City, the University of the Western Cape won the Varsity Derby against the University of Pretoria, putting a stop to the latter’s seven wins on the trot.
The Blues had to wait for Ntombifikile Fiona Ndlovu’s 73rd minute strike to claim victory, their fourth in a row.
UWC remain fourth on 20 points, while Amatuks drop to third on 21 points – giving the log leaders breathing space as they are three adrift.

While many expected the Eastern Cape Derby at the Davidson Stadium in Alice to be a hotly contested affair, it turned out to be a walk in the park for the University of Fort Hare who walloped a struggling Thunderbirds Ladies 5-0 in Alice.
An own goal by Okuhle Mchakuvana (9’) opened the floodgates, before Kesha Hendricks (19’, 76’) and defender Amanda November (23’, 33’) grabbed braces to complete the demolition.
After nine matches, Fort Hare are now 12th after their third victory, while Thunderbirds remain pointless and bottom of the table in 10 games.

The University of Johannesburg moved to second place on the table following a hard-fought 1-0 victory over Copperbelt Ladies at the Baroka Global Village in Polokwane.
After a closely contested affair in the first half, Thato Mofolo fired the winner in the 68th minute to give the visitors their third win in succession.
The students, who have played one match more, are now on 22 points, just two behind table-topping Sundowns Ladies. Copperbelt has dropped to the ninth spot after their fourth defeat on the trot.

In a come from behind win, Nomvula Kgoale scored a 90th minute goal to hand TS Galaxy Queens a 2-1 victory over a stubborn First Touch Ladies at the Old Peter Mokaba Stadium in Polokwane.
Mphefumulo Khosa had helped the home side to take the lead in the 38th minute before Leah Sethunya cancelled the advantage two minutes before the break.
When it looked like it was going to end in a stalemate, along came Kgoale with a strike for The Rockets to steal all three points – giving new coach Sizwe Sibiya a one hundred percent record of two out of two wins. First Touch suffer their third defeat in a row.
The visitors are fifth while the hosts lie in position 10.

JVW can only have themselves to blame after sharing the spoils with the visiting Royal AM in a goalless draw at the UJ Soccer Stadium in Soweto.
The Blue Diamonds dominated the match but had nothing to show in the end as they fired blanks, missing clear cut chances.
They remain unbeaten in seven matches and are now sixth on the table, Royal AM are 11th.

Richmond United increased the woes of Lindelani Ladies with a 3-nil win at Merino Park in De Aar.
The KwaZulu Natal outfit has not won a match in eight fixtures – with their last victory coming in the first game of the season at the beginning of March.
They are second from bottom on four points, while Richmond is eighth on 15 points.

Durban Ladies lost their sixth match in succession when they fell 2-1 to TUT Matsatsantsa Ladies at the King Zwelithini Stadium in Durban.
The visitors led 2-0 at half time thanks to goals from Mogaetji Ramanna (10’) and Tshegofatso Motlogelwa (27’) before the hosts pulled one back but it too little too late.
Durban Ladies drop one spot down to 14, while TUT Matsatsantsa climbs a notch up to seventh.
