HOLLYWOODBETS SUPER LEAGUE: Six of the best for JVW as the battle for third place intensifies

JVW were in an uncompromising mood in their midweek (Wednesday, 8 November 2023) clash in the Hollywoodbets Super League as they rolled over the visiting Durban Ladies in a 6-1 victory.

An own goal, a brace from Gabriela Salgado and Aliyaah Alie each, as well as one strike from Mary Ntsweng were enough to give the Blue Diamonds victory.

This saw them return to third place after they had dropped one spot down following TS Galaxy Queens’ victory over Ma-Indies Ladies last weekend, while JVW was not in action.

After 26 games each, the Blue Diamonds are on 56 points, two more than the Rockets.

JVW is 10 points behind log leaders and reigning champions Mamelodi Sundowns Ladies and second-placed University of the Western Cape (UWC) – who are tied on 66 each, but the Brazilians have a superior goal difference of 69 compared to 46 of the Capetonians.

Action continues this weekend with only two matches scheduled.

Both UWC and JVW will be taking long trips to De Aar and Polokwane respectively.

RICHMOND UNITED vs UWC: 15H00

With Mamelodi Sundowns Ladies out of the country on CAF Women’s Champions League duties in Cote d’Ivoire, UWC will play two fixtures before the defending champions return from their travels (after the final on 19 November).

The Capetonians will face Richmond United on Saturday, 11 November at Merino Park in the Norther Cape.

This will be their students’ first match since their 1-0 loss to Sundowns Ladies last month (22 October) and will be eager to collect maximum points to have an advantage over the reigning champions.

The eight-placed Richmond United played to a goalless draw against Tuks Ladies last weekend.

FIRST TOUCH vs JVW: 15H00

On Sunday, 12 November, the Blue Diamonds will be up against First Touch Ladies at the Old Peter Mokaba Stadium.

Playing in their final away fixture for the season, JVW will be hoping to collect maximum points to put some distance between them and TS Galaxy, who are not playing this weekend.

In the reverse fixture, JVW defeated First Touch by a solitary goal.

Both teams come into this clash with contrasting results – the Blue Diamonds had a feast of goals (6-1) against Durban Ladies in midweek, while First Touch lost to Copperbelt Ladies (2-1) last weekend.
