UJ LADIES TOP OF THE HOLLYWOODBETS SUPER LEAGUE TABLE

The University of Johannesburg (UJ Ladies) will go into the international break top of the Hollywoodbets Super League table.

This comes after a dominant and convincing 6-1 victory over newcomers Ezemvelo Ladies on Saturday (29 March 2025) at the UJ Soccer Stadium in Soweto.

Two goals each from Thato Mofolo and Ayesha Moosa, as well as one strike apiece from Refiloe Maseko and Gugu Dhlamini were enough to dismantle the KwaZulu Natal outfit.

Former UJ Ladies player, Onelisa Nanasele scored the consolation goal for her new employers.

After four matches – the most by any team in the 2025 campaign thanks to a fragmented league start due to contract negotiations between SAFA and sponsors Hollywoodbets, the students are on nine points.

The Eastern Cape’s University of Fort Hare are second on seven points after three games, while the pair of Copperbelt Ladies and Mamelodi Sundowns Ladies are third and fourth respectively – the latter duo has played two fixtures each.

On Sunday (30 March) at the Davidson Stadium in Alice in the Eastern Cape, City Lads Ladies registered their first ever win over the University of Pretoria in a 3-1 triumph after five meetings.

This was Tuks’ first match of the season, and it showed in the first half with disjointed passes and lack of coordinated play.

It was no surprise when Ashley Booysen struck in the 21st minute, before a brace by Siphosethu Nojoko in the 32nd and 41st minute to take a commanding lead at the break.

After the recess, the Tshwane outfit was a different entity as they came out with guns blazing, playing City Lads off the park. But they did not convert their chances, managing instead only one goal in the entire half through Molatelo Kobo. Tuks thought they had the second when Siyamthanda Qashani had the ball in the back of the net but was adjudged to have been offside.

In the second match of the double header at the same venue, between the hosts the University of Fort Hare (UFH) and the University of the Western Cape (UWC), the Eastern Cape side pulled off a hard-fought 1-0 win with a strike by Rennika Khoza – her first in UFH colours.

This Varsity Derby lived up to expectations with end-to-end action the entire 90 minutes. In addition, the fans came out in numbers with standing room only in the stands as they spurred their team forward.

And they were rewarded with three points – their second of the new campaign, with a draw in-between, leaving the Baby Wolves on seven points.

For the visitors, it was their second defeat in a row after they went down to reigning champions Sundowns Ladies in their last assignment.

There will be no fixtures next weekend as the league goes into the international break with the Sasol-sponsored Banyana Banyana scheduled to face Malawi in two international friendly games on 5 and 8 April.
